A pair of high-profile Kelowna golf courses are under new ownership.
GolfBC Group announced last week that its parent company, Burrard International, has completed the sale of several properties to Sandpiper Group.
The sale includes Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club, including the Pinnacle course, and The Okanagan Golf Club, which is made up of both The Bear and The Quail courses.
Outside of Kelowna, Nicklaus North Golf Course, Crystal Lodge and The Beacon Pub in Whistler are also part of the transaction.
Sandpiper Group is a Vancouver-based private equity firm owned by the Manji family, which has a real estate profile of more than 4,000 hotel rooms and 2,000 multifamily units.
The acquisition of the Kelowna and Whistler golf courses is Sandpiper Group’s first investment in the golf industry.
“While ownership of these properties has changed, GolfBC will continue to operate and manage the golf courses as part of the GolfBC Group brand, supported by the existing GolfBC corporate team,” a news release about the sale explains.
“The leadership teams and team members at the golf properties will remain in place, with day-to-day operations continuing as usual for the foreseeable future.”
Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club in Richmond and Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria were not a part of the sale and will remain under the ownership of Burrard International and the management of GolfBC.
The Vancouver-based GolfBC Group had owned both Gallagher’s Canyon and Okanagan golf clubs since 1999.
The land that both courses are situated on was initially leased for 15 years before being purchased by GolfBC through Burrard International in 2013.
