(UPDATE: March 3 @ 3:25 pm) - The incident that shut down Hwy 97 through Lake Country overnight was fatal, police have confirmed.
According to the RCMP, the reason for the closure was a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian on Hwy 97 between Pelmewash Parkway and Wall Road.
The pedestrian was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital where they sadly succumbed to their injuries. The driver remained on scene, the RCMP noted.
“This portion of highway was closed temporarily to allow for an RCMP collision analyst to attend and collect the necessary data,” explained Cpl. Michael Gauthier. “The highway has since reopened and we thank the public for their patience.”
Anyone who witnessed the fatal collision, or has relevant dash cam or other video footage from the area around the time of the incident, is urged to contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
