UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP release composite sketch for suspect involved in sexual assault

(UPDATE: Oct. 8 @ 1:48 PM) - The Kelowna RCMP has released a composite sketch of a suspect from a sexual assault that occurred last week.

A woman said she was walking in Millbridge Park, in the area of Gordon Drive and Springfield Road, when she was approached from behind and sexually assaulted by an unknown male.

He fled from the scene when she fought back.

The suspect is described as a 35-year-old Caucasian male with a very thin build.

He has long black curly hair with a widow’s peak, police said, and a definitive mole under his right eye.

“We are asking anyone who believes they recognize this person, or saw them in the area that day to contact us immediately,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

(ORIGINAL STORY: Sept. 30 @ 12:05 pm) - A report of a brazen sexual assault in central Kelowna are being investigated by the RCMP.

Police said the alleged sexual assault happened around 9 am on Wednesday in Millbridge Park, which runs along Mill Creek near Gordon Drive and Springfield Road.

“A woman was walking in the park when she was approached from behind and sexually assaulted by an unknown male,” explained an RCMP release.

“The woman was able to defend herself and fought back against her attacker, and fled the area to safety.”

Although the incident was surely traumatic, the woman fortunately did not suffer any physical injuries during the attack.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male around 35-year-old and 5’10” in height.

He had long, black curly hair and a mole under his right eye, police said.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded sweater with “California” in white lettering, as well as a picture of a bear on it, along with black pants and a red backpack with red mesh straps.

He was also described as smelling strongly of cigarettes.

“Police are asking the public to be aware of this incident and to assist with any information that can advance the investigation,” said Cst. Solana Paré.

“Our investigative teams are working very hard to identify and locate the man responsible for this sexual assault and are asking anyone who witnessed something, or who may recognize his description, to contact police.”

Investigators are also hoping to obtain dash-cam footage from the area of Millbridge Park, which includes Ethel Street to Gordon Drive and Sutherland Avenue to Springfield Road, from between 8:30-9:15 am on Wednesday.
