Kelowna man allegedly exposes himself to stranger at campground

Police in the Kootenays are investigating reports of a lewd act that took place at a campground in late August.

Trail RCMP officers were alerted on Sunday morning that a man had allegedly exposed himself to a stranger at the campground off Champion Lakes Road near Fruitvale.

He’s alleged to have approached the victim at a campsite, pulled down his pants and “engaged in an indecent act,” an RCMP release explains.

According to police, the man was told to leave and did so “after further persuasion,” and the victim remained at the campsite with a friend and dog until the incident was reported to police.

“The man did not return to the campsite, but was later identified as a 47-year-old Kelowna man,” the RCMP release adds.

Police did not say whether the man was arrested, but note that the matter remains under criminal investigation.

“The investigation is underway and we wish to speak to anyone who was a witness to this incident, similar behaviour or this 47-year-old Kelowna man and his activities at the campsite,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a provided statement.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Trail RCMP detachment by calling 250-364-2566.
