PHOTOS: The Northern Lights dazzled above Kelowna on Tuesday night

The Northern Lights made an appearance over many Canadian communities on Tuesday night.

That included right here in Kelowna, where local photographer Roman Bartos trekked out with his camera to capture the show between 7-10 pm.

Bartos has become a leading figure when it comes to capturing the dazzling aurora borealis and he’s always excited to share his work with others.

It was no different this time around, as Bartos emailed the KelownaNow newsroom with several incredible photos and an epic timelapse video around 1:45 am today.

If you feel like light displays have become more common and widespread recently, you’re not imagining it.

The sun is at its maximum phase of its 11-year activity cycle, which means it’s not just people in the far north being treated to the dazzling display of colour in the night sky.

To start the week, space weather forecasters indicated that coronal mass ejections were likely to reach Earth on Tuesday night and it appears as though there could be a bit more in store this evening.

According to the University of Alaska Fairbanks forecast, high aurora activity is expected tonight and you may be able to catch a glimpse if the skies are clear.

However, the phenomenon is often difficult to pick up with the naked eye and is much more visible through a camera, which Bartos’ stunning photos certainly showcase.
