Prohibited driver caught in Lake Country with boat stolen out of Vernon

A boat stolen out of the North Okanagan a year ago was recovered in Lake Country last week.

A Lake Country RCMP was patrolling the community when they noticed a boat trailer without a licence plate attached to a red Chevrolet Avalanche parked at the Oyama boat launch.

The truck has been allegedly linked to several thefts across the Okanagan, police said in a news release.

The RCMP officer waited for the driver to return and carried out a traffic stop when he tried to leave the parking lot.

During the traffic stop, the RCMP officer found the man was prohibited from driving in BC.

He also discovered the boat had been reported stolen from Vernon in 2024.

The man was arrested and released at the scene but he was given a future court date.

Police impounded the truck and the stolen boat and trailer were returned to their rightful owner.

Anyone with information about this incident, or any other crimes in the community, are urged to contact the Lake Country RCMP at (250) 766-2288.
