Midfielder Marco Bustos scored one minute into the match to lead Pacific FC to a 1-0 victory over FC Edmonton on Friday at Starlight Stadium.
It was the second goal for the year for the Winnipeg, MB native and first since mid-July. Bustos has been the centrepiece of the PFC offence this season, counting six assists on the season to go along with two scores.
The win also marked goaltender Callum Irving’s eighth clean sheet of the season, which ranks second out of all CPL keepers. This was most likely the easiest shutout of the Vancouver native’s career, as the PFC defence did not allow Edmonton to get a shot on goal for the entire 90 minutes.
Pacific’s record moves to 12–7-7 on the season following the victory. They now sit in third place overall with 43 points on the year, two full points clear of fourth place Calvary FC.
The Tridents will have the opportunity to clinch a playoff spot with a win in one of their final two games this week.
PFC is scheduled to be back on the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Haliton for a date with Forge FC, with kick-off set for 4 pm PT.
