Coyotes improve to first place in CCBC after weekend sweep in Alberta

OC was back on the diamond in Alberta this Easter weekend against the University of Calgary Dinos, whacking 69 hits and out-scoring the Dinos 54 to 19.

Sophomore pitcher Chris Wyslobocki began the festivities on Friday for Game one. Wyslobocki commanded the mound for seven innings, not allowing any of the Dinos any significant offence with zero runs, five hits, four walks and struck out eight players.

OC would be impressive at bat as well, with every player hitting except for one. Senior Jake Fischer, who boasts a league-leading 23 RBI, and Junior Noah Wood-Jolivet were both three for five with two RBI. Seven other Coyotes would have 2 hits to add to the 21 hits in the game.

OC shutout the Dinos in game one and won 13-0, setting the tone for the upcoming matches which would all reach double-digit scores.

On Saturday, OC would maintain their offensive drive, scoring 16 times on 19 hits.

Senior Davis Todosichuk, who has a league-leading batting average of .431 would have a big game, going four for six with a double and an RBI. Freshman Brendan Luther and Sophomore Trevor Mlait would both go three for six.

Freshman starting pitcher Nick Lee would struggle to stay consistent for his three innings on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits, walking four and striking out five.

In relief, Sophomore Alex Dawson would throw 1.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits; followed by freshman Brett Reid, who would throw 2.1 innings allowing no runs, no hits and striking out one batter; the game was closed by freshman Jayden Clayton, allowing three runs on two hits.

The Dinos would garner some offence for game two, but not enough to overcome the Coyotes dominating offence. Coyotes win 16-7.

The Coyotes’ offence would continue to dominate at bat. Fischer and Freshman Massimo Peranio would both rack up three hits a piece with Fischer driving in four runs.

Senior pitcher Trevor Brigden, league-leader in strikeouts, would allow three runs on eight hits during his six innings on the mound.

To close, Junior Wyatt Hummel would throw three inning with no earned runs and only one hit, striking out three. OC wins 11-4.

Jesse Poniewozik threw for five innings to start game four, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out three.

He would be followed by a struggling Sophomore Gavin Barrett, who could not get an out, and was replaced by Freshman Austin Brown. Brown would throw the final four innings allowing no runs, one hits and striking out five batters.

On offence, Peranio would have a huge game going four for five with two doubles and four RBI, Freshman Tyler Monks would hit three of five with two RBI, Todosichuk would go three for three with a double and an RBI and Fischer would go two for four with three RBI to add to his league leading 23 RBI.

Their weekend sweep will lengthen their win streak to five games with a 17-5 record. OC will take a break for their season bye week before heading into their final six games of the season — starting with their season rivals, the TRU Wolfpack, for senior night on May 1.
