It was a weekend to remember for the Igninla family as Joe Iginla made his WHL debut and scored his first career goal in his second game.
The 15-year-old was recently drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings and made his first WHL appearance this past Friday against the Swift Current Broncos.
The Oil Kings would lose, but Iginla recorded his first WHL point with an assist in the first period.

Edmonton then took on the Regina Pats on Sunday and halfway through the second period, the Oil Kings were down by a goal.
On a breakaway and with two defenders by his side, John Szabo passed the puck to a free Iginla, who buried his first career WHL goal.

“I joined the rush and got absolutely set up…it was sick honestly, not by me but by him, I was really happy with that pass,” said Iginla after the game.
The game then went to overtime and Iginla got to enjoy his first win with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
“It feels great,” Iginla said to the media after the game on how the weekend had gone.
“I never imagined it could go so well, so it was definitely a great feeling.”
