The 2020 Canadian Junior Football League season has been cancelled

COVID-19 has resulted in the cancellation of the Canadian Junior Football League season.

The league announced today that it’s not feasible to operate a regular season or playoffs in 2020 due to public health guidelines put in place for the pandemic.

Those guidelines don’t allow for large enough gatherings to make training and competition safe for the league’s players.

“It’s very disappointing to make this announcement today, but our priority is the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff and team administrators,” said Jim Pankovich, CJFL commissioner.

A statement from the league said that the focus and attention immediately turns to a return to play in 2021.

The league says it had hoped the situation would improve in time for a 2020 season to become feasible, but the ongoing risks make this year’s season impossible.

CJFL teams will continue to engage with their players and communities to play an important role in their communities, as long as public health regulations allow it.
