Pineo & Loeb to bring new genre-spanning setlist to Doc Willoughby's

Nova Scotian EDM duo, Pineo & Loeb, are gearing up for their first visit to Kelowna.

Known for radiating positivity on stage, and hypnotizing audiences with their unique hybrid of modern electronic music and old school influences — this up and coming duo have made quite the name for themselves playing shows and festivals around the world.

Hot off the release of their most recent project, Elevation, an album comprised of 12 made-from-scratch covers, Pineo & Loeb are preparing for a Western Canadian tour which will land them at Doc Willoughby’s on March 7, 2019.

“We create a lot of different styles of electronic music. We really like to take the sounds of the past and integrate them with the sounds of the future,” said Mitchell Pineo.

After the release of their original album Lifeblood in 2017, the two had the opportunity to create remixes of some of their favourite artists' top songs for Morning Maniac Music.

In addition to their rendition of David’s Bowie’s “Heroes,” the two also tackled Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” which garnered them the recognition of the band’s current singer, Eric Bloom.

“One of the huge goals of this project is to get feedback from the original artist,” said JR Loeb.

After realizing how much fun they had working with the fundamentals of classic songs, the idea for Elevation was born.

“We just thought that it was so cool to take the songs from the past and just try to totally imagine them over again with how they might be written now,” said Pineo.

The project was a year in the making and featured the work of 20 collaborators across the country, narrowing things down from the nearly 40 songs they made, to the 12 featured on the album.

“The songs we picked are really just ones we love and listen to,” said Pineo.

“We reimagined [them] in a more modern context using different sounds and textures,” added Loeb.

Genre-spanning, tracks on the album range from Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” to TLC’s “Waterfalls” and everything in between. When it came down to tackling songs of such magnitude, it was feat the pair did not take lightly.

“There are some huge connotations that come along with these songs, but we really tried to just have fun with it. You could get caught up in your head with that sort of thing but we basically just poured our hearts into it,” said Loeb.

“It started to sink in and we were like “Oh S**t! We are releasing a cover of Stairway to Heaven,” like that is serious, it is one of the most famous songs of all time, so if we are going to do this then we have to do this seriously, properly and really well,” added Pineo.

Unlike their contribution to Morning Maniac Music, all of the songs on Elevation were made from scratch by the pair and their collaborators, avoiding the use of any original audio from the inspiring tracks.

“Everything we created ourselves, from the synth lines and guitars, to recording the vocals in studio, we even had people send us their recordings from abroad,” said Loeb.

If you’re a fan of mixing genres, these legendary tracks or the talents of Pineo & Loeb, you won’t want to miss them at Doc’s.

“It is going to be high energy! We really enjoy performing and we try to make it a journey through the eras by playing a lot of different genres,” said Pineo.
