One man was killed and two others were seriously injured after a collision in the westbound lanes of Hwy 16 last week.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is investigating the fatal incident and it’s believed that alcohol was a factor.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Hwy 16 just outside of Witset, around 30 kilometres north of Smithers, shortly after 8:30 pm on Thursday, April 2.

According to the BCHP, two men had pulled over in their vehicles to assist a Dodge flatdeck pickup that had stopped at the side of the highway with a mechanical issue.
Unfortunately, the Dodge was struck by a black Chevrolet Tahoe and the two good Samaritans were caught up in the collision.
One of them – a 60-year-old Witset man – was killed and the other – a 45-year-old Calgary man – was seriously injured. Police say the 42-year-old Witset man driving the Chevrolet was also seriously hurt.
“Police suspect that alcohol is a factor,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “It’s important that we find witnesses and video to not only the collision itself, but to the behaviour of the driver of the black Chevrolet Tahoe in the hours before the collision.”
Anyone who witnessed the lead-up to the collision or the driving behaviour of the Witset man behind the wheel of the Chevrolet in the hours that led up to the fatal crash is urged to contact the BCHP’s Smithers branch at 250-847-3233.
