No evidence to suggest threats made toward northern BC school are credible: RCMP

Mounties in Vanderhoof continue to investigate what they call “unfounded threats” made against a local high school.

According to an RCMP release, the alleged threats to Nechako Valley Secondary School were reported to police on Sunday.

Police are “actively investigating the report,” the release explained, but “no information has been identified to suggest the threats are credible.”

Cpl. Brett Urano said the RCMP does not believe there is any risk to the public or those within the high school.

“We understand that these types of reports can cause concern for parents and the community,” he noted. “We want to reassure everyone that we are actively investigating and will continue to maintain a presence around the school.”

The Vanderhoof RCMP has increased patrols in the area of the school, which are intended to provide visibility and reassurance to students, staff and the wider community.

Mounties continue to work closely with school administration as the probe moves forward and are asking anyone with information to contact the detachment at 250-567-2222.
