Two people were killed in a head-on collision in northern BC on Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened around 3:45 pm on Hwy 16 near Braucher Road.
An RCMP release explains that a westbound pickup truck collided head-on with a semi in the eastbound lanes of the highway.
Unfortunately, the driver and passenger in the pickup, two local men aged 39 and 24, did not survive the crash. The semi driver was transported to hospital for treatment.
“Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased as they navigate this difficult loss,” noted Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
“Recognizing the impact this has on the local community, New Hazelton RCMP Indigenous Policing Services officers are working closely with the affected First Nations bands and will continue to offer support where needed.”
Hwy 16 was closed for several hours as investigators, including the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, processed the scene.
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing and police are asking any witnesses, or those with relevant dash cam footage from the area on Thursday afternoon, to contact police.
This was one of two fatal crashes in BC around the same time on Thursday afternoon, as a 47-year-old Kamloops woman and her 11-year-old son were killed in a collision on Hwy 1 near Chase.
