The search for a woman who was reported missing in the Peachland area around nine months ago has come to a tragic end.
Police confirmed today that Stephanie Woodcock’s body was found in the Peachland area of Okanagan Lake on Friday, April 25.
Once it was pulled from the water by the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team, the file was turned over to the BC Coroners Service to determine an identity and cause of death.
“Since then a positive identification has been made and the cause of death is not suspicious,” explained an RCMP release issued this afternoon.
Woodcock, a 40-year-old Port Alberni resident, was the subject of a missing persons alert issued by the RCMP on Sept. 18, 2024.
Police said at the time that her truck, which was outfitted to live in, had been parked at Antlers Beach since Sept. 3, 2024, which is when the last possible sighting of her was reported.
Her last communication with family was two days earlier on Sept. 1, 2024.
In the days that followed the missing persons report, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue assisted the RCMP with boat, ground, dog and drone searches of the Antlers Beach area, but Woodcock was not found.
While the news was made official by police today, Woodcock’s mother Donna shared it a week ago to a Facebook group dedicated to the search for her daughter.
“It is with great sadness and pain that I share this update,” she wrote before informing group members about the discovery of her daughter’s body.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love and support received by all!”
