Man accused of sexually assaulting horses on rural Okanagan property

Police say they have identified a suspect in a bizarre and concerning investigation in the North Okanagan.

Shortly before 1 am on Saturday, a woman called the RCMP to report that an unknown man was trespassing on her Vernon property, which is home to Abigail Equestrian.

He fled the area before officers arrived and was not found during an ensuing search, but the responding officers reviewed security footage from the property to determine why he was there.

“The footage revealed a criminal offence had occurred within an enclosed animal pen on the property,” an RCMP release explained.

Abigail Equestrian owner Erica Van Meenen got a little more specific on social media, alleging that the man assaulted some of her horses during the middle of the night.

She further clarified in the comment section that the alleged assaults were of a sexual nature.

“A social media post related to this incident has received significant public attention and has resulted in a large volume of information being provided to police,” said Cst. Chris Terleski.

That information helped investigators identify a suspect and the investigation into the concerning incident is ongoing at this time.
