A man who was serving time in prison for a murder that took place in the Central Okanagan in 2005 has died in custody.
The Correctional Service of Canada confirmed on Tuesday that Grant Fralic died at the Bath Institution in Ontario.
A release from the CSC says he died of “apparent natural causes following an illness.”
Fralic had been incarcerated since November 28, 2008 for his part in the gruesome murder of Jody Mitchell Elliott.
Elliott was a low-level drug dealer in the Okanagan whose remains were found in a wooded area on Kelowna's Westside in early November 2005.
Fralic and two others were intercepted by a police officer shortly after leaving the dismembered body and one of the victim’s ears was reportedly found in Fralic’s pocket.
Three others were sentenced to between eight and 11 years in prison for their role in the killing, while Fralic received an indeterminate sentence.
The CSC says Fralic’s next of kin have been notified of his passing and, as is always the case when an inmate dies behind bars, the circumstances of his death will be reviewed.
