Mounties called to ‘escalating’ fight at Okanagan home, arrive to find woman dead on patio

A Vernon woman is dead after what police are calling a “family disturbance” late last week.

Officers were called to the home in the 2300 block of 34th Street in Vernon around 4:15 pm on Friday.

According to police, they received “numerous calls from the public regarding a fight that was escalating” at the home.

Upon arrival, Mounties found the body of the 75-year-old victim on the patio.

“Responding officers arrested a suspect on scene,” noted Cpl. Tania Finn. “The suspect was released from police custody pending a future court date and is bound by several conditions.”

The RCMP says this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is “no known risk to the public.”

No further information will be released by police at this time as the North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit continues to investigate the fatal incident.
