Oh deer: Roadside Okanagan fruit stand robbed in broad daylight

Crime and safety is one of the main concerns for British Columbians as they head to the polls for the provincial election this weekend.

On a brisk Wednesday morning in the Bella Vista area of Vernon, that issue reared its ugly head.

A small roadside fruit stand was the victim of a brazen robbery in broad daylight.

The suspect is described as between three and four feet tall with brown fur and antlers.

Fortunately, photos of the culprit were snapped by a passerby, which should help police track him down and make an arrest.

Shared to the Vernon Rant and Rave Facebook group by Scott Butler, who said, in part: “If you have an apple stand out on Bella Vista, you’re being robbed right now.”

His post and the photos have drawn quite the response from the public with a number of clever replies.

“Breaking news...Young buck gets caught red-hoofed with this un-deer-niable evidence,” wrote one commenter.

“Pretty sure this guy is number seven on the ‘most wanted’ poster in the post office,” said another.

“That’s my dear friend, he’s just misunderstood,” one lady chimed in with, while another said “that’s just Fred! Pretty sure he works there!”

These community Facebook groups can often be filled with serious, frustrating matters, but a lighthearted share by Butler this morning seemed to put all who saw it into a good mood.
