Okanagan RCMP investigating grass fire caused by illegal Canada Day fireworks

Okanagan Mounties are investigating a grass fire that is believed to be caused by illegal Canada Day fireworks.

The first was reported around 11 pm in the Bella Vista and Okanagan Hills Boulevard area in Vernon.

The fireworks caused a grass fire, which was fortunately contained by firefighters before it spread to nearby structures.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing two people on a dirt bike wearing full face helmets in the area of the fire.

Police seized evidence at the scene, which will be further investigated by the Forensic Identification Section, a news release said.

The Vernon RCMP are now asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 10:40 and 10:50 pm to give them a call at (250) 545-7171 and refer to file 2025-10570.
