Okanagan campers treated to visit by Geek Squad Academy

Dozens of campers were introduced to some of the newest technology in the world after receiving a visit from the Geek Squad Academy.

The high-tech team, part of a program run by Best Buy, were at the Easter Seals Camp Winfield on July 4.

They made 46 campers into “Junior Agents” and gave them hands-on experience with some very cool new devices.

The campers – aged between 19 and 29 – were also taught about robotics and digital music creation by 10 volunteers from the Kelowna and Vernons Best Buy stores.

“This was an amazing opportunity that Easter Seals campers with a wide range of diverse abilities were able to take part in, giving them a chance to learn and try out new skills and technology that they otherwise may not have a chance to,” said James Gagnon, the director of camp facilities at Easter Seals.

The Geek Squad Academy has been running for five years.

“We were very excited to bring Geek Squad Academy to Easter Seals Camp Winfield,” said Jen Knight, community relations specialist at Best Buy Canada.

“Our employees had a fantastic time working with the campers, showing them how fun technology can be."
