Okanagan man planning trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji after $500K lotto win

All of a sudden, Randall Dunn has big plans for 2026.

A world of possibilities opened up to the Vernon resident after he won a $500,000 Extra prize from the Lotto 6/49 draw on Aug. 20.

He said he used the self-scanner three times when checking his ticket at the store and “thought the machine malfunctioned.”

Dunn brought the ticket up to the counter where the retailer confirmed his life-changing win.

Once it was confirmed, he was most excited to share the news with his husband.

“He was in disbelief until he saw the claim slip,” Dunn told the BCLC. “He yelled ‘yahoo!’ and then we did a little happy dance.”

Immediate celebration plans include a nice dinner, but the $500,000 cheque provides so much more long term.

Dunn says “it will make things easier as we work into retirement” and that will begin with some significant travel plans.

He and his husband are planning to make a big overseas trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji in 2026.

The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased at the Chevron gas station on 32nd Street and Hwy 97 in Vernon.
