South Okanagan shines bright on the Amazing Race Canada

Canadians from coast to coast were treated to a beautiful showcase of the South Okanagan Tuesday night.

The region was featured on episode four of season 10 of the Amazing Race Canada.

There will be spoilers below, so if you plan to watch the episode and have not done so yet, maybe head back to our homepage and find a different story to peruse this morning.

The episode begins at the SS Sicamous where host Jon Montgomery gives the results of the first ever U-Turn vote from the day before in Richmond.

All but one other team voted to U-Turn Kevin and Gurleen, but as Montgomery gives the news he reveals the twist that they now get to pick one other duo to share in their misery.

Ironically, Kevin and Gurleen choose to U-Turn Julia and Olivia, who were the only team that didn’t vote against them 24 hours earlier.

With that out of the way, everyone heads on their way and learns their first stop, a Road Block, will be at Area 27 Motorsports Park in Oliver, where one racer from each duo will have to complete three off-road tracks.

Once complete, it’s back to Penticton where teams must find one of nine Amazing Race Canada yearbooks (one for each team) hidden among thousands of pieces of literature at The Book Shop.

It’s then off to Dirty Laundry Vineyard in Summerland, where most teams can choose to do one of two tasks, with the exception of the two U-Turn victims that have to do both.

Teams pick between Press, which involves collecting and stomping enough grapes to produce 1.5 litres of juice, and Undress, where they have to study a long clothesline of funky clothes and recreate it exactly at the other side of the vineyard.

Upon finishing up at Dirty Laundry Vineyard, teams then drove south to the Nk'Mip Desert Culture Centre in Osoyoos to complete their final challenge of the leg.

Here, whichever racer didn’t do the off-road challenge in Oliver must complete a challenge where they memorize the names of six animals in the Nk'Mip language.

Once they do that, they run to an archery course and listen to someone call out the names of four animals using the Nk'Mip language and they have to shoot all four without missing.

When that is done successfully, teams are able to head to Phantom Creek Estates on the Black Sage Bench to meet Montgomery at the Pit Stop.

Michael and Tyson, two best friends and former professional baseball players, are the first to arrive and earn themselves a free trip to Vietnam and $10,000.

The last to arrive are Connor and John, and they are the third team to be eliminated from the race as a result.

With the BC portion of the race wrapped up, the eight remaining teams will head to Regina, Sask., on next week’s episode.
