The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has announced the winners of their first ever spring poetry contest.
Regional District Parks Services staff started receiving entries shortly after the contest began on May 1.
In all, 70 poems were submitted from poets in four age groups capturing their feelings and emotions in two categories – the celebration of spring and one of the RDCO regional parks.
“We’re grateful for all those who waxed poetic” says Isabella Hodson, Supervisor of Community Relations and Visitor Services.
“The number of submissions kept our judging panel working overtime and we apologize that our original plan to announce the winners on May 21 was delayed. We appreciate everyone’s patience to ensure each poem got the attention it deserved.”
The poem judged Best Overall is Celebration of Spring submitted by Nicole G. who wins the grand prize $100 gift card to a local small business.
Other category winners who will also receive prizes include:

o Age 10-13 – Springtime – Makena S.
o Age 14-17 – The Egg – Isabella S.

“We thank our contest partners with the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission and Regional Waste Reduction Office and of course Tourism Kelowna and our local businesses that provided prizes.”
