Witnesses urged to come forward after 2 young Okanagan men killed in crash

An Armstrong man has been arrested after a head-on crash left two young men dead on Saturday.

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says the crash happened on Highway 97A near Spallumcheen around 1:30 am on July 12.

A black GMC Sierra pickup crashed into a tan Chevrolet truck, which was carrying four people.

The impact killed a 19-year-old man from Vernon and a 20-year-old man from Coldstream.

According to BCHP, the man who was driving the GMC and his passenger left the scene on foot without identifying themselves to witnesses or police.

Witnesses reported seeing the GMC, which had lifted suspension and a tidy tank in the back, driving the wrong way on the highway before the fatal crash.

“There may be people who had a near-miss with the black GMC Sierra who have not yet spoken to police,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

“We need to speak to those people, and dash-camera video would be very useful.”

Later that day, a 30-year-old Armstrong man, who is believed to be the suspect driver, was arrested.

The investigation is ongoing and the BCHP are urging witnesses, or those with dash cam footage, to call the BCHP – Falkland branch a call at (250) 828-3184.
