The Penticton RCMP is leading the investigation into a pair of armed robberies at South Okanagan liquor stores this week.
The first happened at Gables Liquor Store on Martin Street in Penticton around 9:30 pm Monday.
According to police, a man entered the business, brandished a semi-automatic handgun, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He’s described as 5’10” and 160 lbs with a slim build, and was wearing a black coat with the hood up, a black ski mask, black gloves and black jeans.
The second incident happened around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
Police said a man entered the OK Falls Market Liquor Store with a handgun and demanded money before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and two bottles of Carolans.
He was wearing dark overalls, a dark hoodie, a dark baseball cap and a black ski mask, the RCMP said.
“At this time we cannot confirm the robberies are related, however, that is something we are certainly looking into,” said Sgt. Jason Bayda.
Bayda noted that being involved in these types of incidents as an employee can be very traumatic and that no one should have to face those risks at work.
“We are asking business owners to consider increasing the number of deposits they conduct during the day, limiting the amount of cash they keep on premises or if possible removing the option to pay by cash,” he added.
“This can help make your business a less desirable target. We also recommend you avoid making your deposits alone.”
Anyone with information on either armed robbery can contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
