PG woman charged with assault after being challenged about shoplifting

A woman has been arrested and charged with assault after allegedly attacking a store’s employee who challenged her about shoplifting.

Jesse Lynn Giroux, 32 and from Prince George, has also been charged with failure to comply with a probation order.

Mounties were called to the 400 block of Dominion Street at 2 pm on Wednesday following an alleged assault.

Police said a suspect had hidden items and was attempting to leave the premises.

The items were recovered, police explained, but the staff member was assaulted and the suspect fled.

Giroux was later arrested without incident near 2nd Avenue and George Street.

She was carrying a knife, police said, in contravention of a probation order.

Giroux will appear in court today.

The RCMP added: “Police would like to remind the public not to confront shoplifters, as personal safety is more important than property. Call police immediately.”
