BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit announced 22 new cameras have been installed on highways throughout the province this year to provide better information on road and weather conditions.
People planning trips throughout the province now have access to 503 cameras in the DriveBC webcam network.
Those cameras provided 1,037 views of current road conditions, the ministry said in a news release
Some of the new cameras installed include one in the Paulson Summit on Highway 3 with a west view.
The ministry said this camera is a remote camera that shares the site with new weather sensors, leading to a more efficient and reliable system. The camera is powered by solar power.
In Northern BC, a new camera has been installed through the Pine Pass on Highway 97 at the access road to Powder King Mountain Resort, a remote area between Prince George and Chetwynd.
A new camera has been installed at Highway 1 at 216 Street, with west and east views along the busy Highway 1 corridor in Langley.
A new camera was installed at Highway 14 at West Shore Parkway, with north, west and east views, as one component of the completed Highway 14 corridor improvements program between Langford and Sooke, the ministry said.
Last December, the province announced it had installed 11 new webcams.
