Alberta teen gives Revelstoke RCMP a wild start to the week

It was a busy start to the week for Revelstoke RCMP, as two young men from Alberta went on a bit of a crime spree.

The first incident took place just after noon on Sunday, Aug. 18, when Revelstoke RCMP received reports that a black car was being used to conceal stolen road construction property.

The vehicle was spotted approximately 35 kilometres east of Revelstoke near the Trans-Canada Highway, shortly after it was seen again driving erratically westbound toward the city.

Officers located the vehicle, however it failed to stop, attempting to evade police by driving into on-coming traffic.

According to RCMP, the vehicle was spotted a third time later on in the evening near Laforme Boulevard and Peakes Drive in Revelstoke, where officers pulled the car over.

Before the vehicle could come to a stop of the driver struck a concrete median, damaging the car beyond operation and ultimately leading to the arrest of both occupants, who were taken into custody without incident.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male from Alberta was released on Monday on a recognizance for being in possession of stolen property, flight from police, mischief to property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving without valid insurance.

A second 19-year-old male from Alberta, who was the vehicle's passenger, was also released on a recognizance for being in possession of stolen property.

Not long after his release, the driver was once again spotted by RCMP on Victoria Road in Revelstoke, this time riding a stolen mountain bike.

While attempting to resist arrest and flee from the officers a taser was deployed. The young man was then arrested and treated for the minor injuries he sustained as a result of the jolt.

On Tuesday, the driver appeared in Salmon Arm Provincial Court where he was once again released on recognizance for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

He is also expected to appear in Revelstoke Provincial Court on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
