Another BC Interior hospital was forced to close its emergency department overnight.
Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre did not have enough doctors to provide emergency services, Interior Health said in a public bulletin issued last night.
The closure occurred between 7 pm on Tuesday and 8 am on Wednesday.
Residents were given two hours’ notice.
They were told that, if they required emergency care, they should head to Kamloops, which is 170 kilometres away from Lillooet.
Lillooet’s emergency room has been closed 11 times this year, according to data provided by Interior Health. Two of those closures occurred between Jan. 1 and July 31; there have been nine since Aug. 1.
Last year, the hospital recorded no closures.
