BC fugitive wanted on first-degree murder charge arrested in California

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has announced the arrest of a suspect wanted for first-degree murder.

BC man Brandon Teixeira was arrested in Oroville, California following a manhunt that lasted for more than a year.

The 28-year-old was wanted in connection to the 2017 murder of Nicholas Khabra in Surrey, after which police offered a $55,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

According to police, Teixeira was considered as “extremely violent” and tried to escape his arrest by ramming an armoured police vehicle with his car and driving away.

A second armoured police vehicle took out Teixeira’s car, he then he tried to escape on foot but a police dog helped capture him.

Police also found nearly 12 kilograms of heroin, more than 1,000 OxyContin and percocet pills, and 18 kilograms of cannabis when they searched the home.

Teixeira is now being held in federal custody while he awaits an extradition process.
