BC garbage truck driver delivers fire to fire station

Firefighters in British Columbia’s capital were met with a unique situation early this morning.

Around 6 am, a Victoria garbage truck caught fire while the driver was making his rounds.

“Thanks to the quick actions of the driver and the swift response from fire crews on duty, the situation was handled safely and efficiently,” explained a social media post from the Victoria Firefighters Association (VFA).

According to the VFA, the driver immediately called 911 and began driving to the downtown fire hall on Johnson Street when he noticed smoke coming from his truck.

“The fire chief, who was in his office, called down to the driver and told him that crews were on their way down,” the VFA post said. “Firefighters directed the driver to reposition the truck away from the building for safety.”

Firefighters quickly go to work extinguishing the smouldering garbage to ensure there wasn’t any further growth or damage to the truck.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the incident.
