The province has announced that it will be providing a one time funding boost of $45 million to libraries across BC.
All 71 BC public libraries and organizations that help libraries deliver their services will receive one-time grants from the funding boost.
The grants can be used to modernize technology, enhance programs and services and provide more access to communities, says the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
Funds will be distributed by March 31, 2023.

“From offering regular access to the internet, to delivering programs for families, newcomers, job seekers and seniors, this funding will go a long way to ensure libraries are helping people stay connected, access information and continue their lifelong learning,” said Anne Kang, minister of municipal affairs.
Last spring, the province provided a one-time $8 million investment to help libraries retroactively cover pandemic costs while meeting the increased demand for digital content, upgrading physical locations, delivering computer and virtual technology training, and developing programs for deeper social and community connections.
A news release says people used digital resources from BC libraries almost 16 million times in 2021, which is a nearly 50% increase from 2019.
“With over 60 million visits per year, public libraries make life more affordable, foster lifelong learning and community connections, and provide vulnerable people with a welcoming space to access services,” said Rina Hadziev, executive director, British Columbia Library Association.
