BC man hopes to pay off mortgage and retire early after $1M lotto win

When Hung-Chieh Chou scanned his Lotto 6/49 ticket through the BCLC Lotto! app, his first thought was that “it was a lot of zeroes!”

It was six zeroes, to be exact, as the Surrey resident won a life-changing $1-million prize from the Nov. 13 draw.

Chou was sitting in his car when he discovered that he won and, unsurprisingly, was most excited to tell his wife.

“She said, ‘Are you sure?’ She was excited to know it was a real win,” he explained.

His immediate plans for the major win is to celebrate with a big dinner, but Chou is already making plans for the future.

He plans to use the windfall to pay off his mortgage and is hoping that it will help him retire early as well.

“It’s incredible,” Chou said of the win. “I feel blessed.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Century Books in Surrey.
