BC man loses Lamborghini after being clocked speeding at 197 km/h

A BC man is facing multiple fines and a week without his vehicle after being caught driving nearly three times the speed limit on the Alex Fraser Bridge.

BC Highway Patrol says a 51-year-old Surrey man was stopped just after 8 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2026, after officers observed a Lamborghini SUV travelling significantly faster than surrounding traffic northbound over the bridge in Delta.

A laser speed reader clocked the vehicle at 197 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

“Some drivers seem to think that bridges are free from speed enforcement. That is a foolish and dangerous assumption,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol.

“Bridges are no strangers to deadly collisions. Driving over double the speed limit is extremely dangerous to you, your passengers and everyone around you.”

The driver and his two passengers were picked up at the scene by family members. The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

The driver is facing a $483 fine for excessive speed under the Motor Vehicle Act, along with a $109 fine for illegal window tint. He is also responsible for towing and impound costs and is expected to face at least three years of high-risk driver insurance premiums, with total costs estimated to exceed $2,500.

McLaughlin said the driver told police he was showing visiting cousins from out of the country the sights of Metro Vancouver.

“Instead, they saw the consequences of dangerous driving,” he said. “We’re grateful it didn’t end much worse.”
