BC Transit and its local government partners are once again offering free transit trips for graduating high school students.
The popular GradPASS program, which has been around since the 1990s, returns to nearly 70 communities across BC this month.
The program allows Grade 12 students to ride the bus for free, any two days during June.
GradPASS cards were handed out to students at participating schools in late May.
“To use a GradPASS, students simply scratch off their two chosen travel days, which do not have to be consecutive,” says a news release from BC Transit.
“When boarding the bus, they present the card along with a valid student ID to the driver.”
The program launched in Vancouver in 1988 in an effort to encourage graduates to take safe transportation options during the graduation season.
It was then adopted in Victoria with other communities following suit over the years.
Now nearly 70 communities offer the program through funding covered by local governments and BC Transit.
