Camping reservations for BC’s provincial parks will reopen next week

A large number of BC’s provincial parks opened on May 14 and there was certainly a big sense of relief.

However, British Columbians are still waiting to be able to camp in these parks once again, a privilege that returns on June 1.

There will certainly be a rush to book reservations at various provincial parks across BC and we now know when that option becomes available.

Any reservations made before the closure in March will still be valid, while new frontcountry and backcountry reservations will be available on a two-month rolling window starting at 7 am on Monday, May 25.

The two-month rolling window means that the following day, Tuesday, May 26, reservations will open up for July 26, and that pattern will continue throughout the summer.

Reservations can be made in most campgrounds for a maximum stay of 14 days, subject to availability, but BC Parks has also put in a rule in place to prevent people from taking advantage of the system.

Any reservations made within the first two weeks of inventory being released can’t be changed, which will prevent people from overbooking and then changing arrival dates to shorten their stay.

Otherwise, BC Parks says that people would do this to obtain a favourable site or time ahead of other customers.

“These reservations can only be cancelled, and normal cancellation fees will apply,” says a statement from BC Parks.

Preferential access to camping will be given to BC residents for the 2020 camping season and any non-BC residents with existing reservations are asked to contact the call centre before June 15 to cancel and receive a full refund.
