Cat that went missing on a BC Ferries sailing found after 2 weeks on the run

After slipping out of his owner's vehicle on a BC Ferries sailing more than two weeks ago, Luigi the cat and his family were reunited at the Tsawwassen terminal on Sunday.

The whole ordeal first began on Aug. 9, when Luigi, a black and white tuxedo cat, slipped out of a small window opening of his owner's vehicle on the Coastal Inspiration ferry while it was travelling from Duke Point in Nanaimo to Tsawwassen.

The crew on board the ferry searched for Luigi with his family, but he could not be located.

Fast forward to Sunday, and Jeff Meier, a BC Ferries commercial services driver, spotted a black and white cat under a portable office trailer at the Tsawwassen terminal.

The sighting prompted Karen from Halo’s Pet Rescue, who had been leading the search for Luigi, and her tracking dog, Halo, to go to the terminal and continue the search.

“With the help of our crew, they did everything they could to lure him out from underneath the trailer while Neelya, Luigi's mom, made the trek from Vernon once she was informed that Luigi was spotted,” stated a BC Ferries social media post.

“Luigi was reluctant to show his face, but once he heard Neelya's voice, however, he came out and the pair were happily reunited!”

The social media post added that BC Ferries employees kept an eye out for Luigi while he was missing and one driver would leave food out in case he was around.

“Thank you to Karen and Halo, who searched for Luigi both in Tsawwassen and Nanaimo for countless hours until he was found,” added the post.

“We are beyond grateful for everyone's fruitful efforts to find Luigi and reunite him with his family.”
