Yet another highway overpass strike is under investigation in British Columbia, and this time police had to work to track down the driver.
According to the BC Highway Patrol, witnesses called in the incident shortly before 2 pm Wednesday.
They said an excavator was being towed on a southbound flatdeck trailer when it crashed into the Blundell overpass on Hwy 99 in Richmond.
Those witnesses informed police that the driver got out of the cab momentarily before driving away from the scene.

“The driver was stopped by police about 20 minutes after the crash,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Any time there is a collision that potentially causes damage, the driver must stop to provide information.”
McLaughlin added that police are working with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement to determine appropriate charges, including potential licensing and permit issues.
No injuries were reported in the crash and the damage to the overpass “appears to be superficial,” a BCHP release noted.
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit will follow up on the overpass to complete a comprehensive examination and ensure it remains safe.
Highway overpass strikes have become an almost-comical ongoing issue in BC in recent years and this is already the second in 2026 after an incident last week.
