Driver, 21, busted going 114 km/h over speed limit on BC highway

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is once again begging drivers to slow down after a recent incident involving an excessive speeder.

According to police, an officer on motorcycle intercepted the BMW M3 coupe as it raced down the Sea to Sky Highway (Hwy 99) near Lions Bay shortly before 11 pm on July 17.

The BCHP says the car was being driven by a 21-year-old Burnaby resident and it was clocked going 194 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

“There have been a high number of fatalities in recent weeks on BC highways, and too much speed is almost always a factor,” explained Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

“Our officers would much rather give you a ticket, tow and impound rather than have to tell your family that you’re not coming home.”

In this case, the driver received all three.

They were handed a $483 fine for excessive speed and the BMW was towed away for a seven-day impound.

Along with the violation ticket, the driver will also be paying for the tow, impound and any subsequent ICBC licensing and insurance penalties.
