Family, RCMP renew appeal in search for BC woman featured in true crime podcast

The Northern Rockies RCMP detachment is renewing an appeal for Karen Tessier, who has been missing for two years.

According to a press release, Tessier’s family is urging anyone with details regarding her disappearance to contact authorities.

A video featuring Tessier’s mother, Elizabeth Burke, is attached to the press release, which was released last year.

“I know someone knows what happened to her and where she is,” said Burke in the video. “Please do the right thing and talk. We miss her so much. If you know anything, no matter how small, don’t be afraid to speak.”

In the renewal released on Friday, July 10, Burke asked anyone with information to “come forward and be a true friend” to her daughter.

Tessier was last seen in the Fort Nelson community on July 9, 2024. She was reported missing the following day.

Her vehicle was found a few days later, near a gravel pit. The statement reads that despite investigative efforts, Tessier has not been located.

The RCMP say units “have followed up on every tip and new information, but continue to look for Karen Tessier’s whereabouts.”

Fort Nelson First Nation (FNFN) even offered a $50,000 reward for information back in 2024, and the North District Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case.

Tessier’s story was recently featured on the “True North, True Crime” podcast, where her mother was interviewed by hosts Graeme and Caitlin Duffy.

The 57-year-old Tessier is described as Indigenous, standing 5'5 "tall and weighing 177 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black-and-white patterned dress.

Anyone with information about Tessier’s disappearance is urged to call the North District Major Crimes Unit’s tip line at 250-561-8888.
