Female tourist randomly assaulted by male stranger in downtown Vancouver

One man is in custody following another unprovoked stranger attack in downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver Police (VPD) say the victim was a 35-year-old woman who was walking near the cruise ship terminal at Canada Place shortly before 9 am on Sunday.

According to the VPD, the victim was “repeatedly punched and kicked in the face,” sustaining multiple injuries that required hospitalization.

Sgt. Steve Addison says several people witnessed the incident and multiple calls to 911 were made.

“The suspect and victim did not know each other and had no prior interaction before the assault occurred,” he explained.

“We’re thankful to the bystanders who called police so our officers could respond immediately and collect valuable evidence that led to the quick arrest of the suspect.”

The arrest happened nearly four hours after the alleged assault at a residential building near East Pender Street and Columbia Street.

Massimo Rosario Falvo, 40, has now been charged with one count of aggravated assault and remains behind bars at this time.
