The cost of gas for FortisBC customers will not change for the rest of the year.
The utility provider, which services the majority of the province with gas, said it has received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission to maintain the gas rates for its customers.
That means the rate will stay at $2.23 per gigajoule (GJ) to start the final quarter of 2025 on Oct. 1.
For customers voluntarily subscribed to the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) program, the price will also stay the same at $9.23 per GJ.
“We understand that energy costs are important for the families and businesses we serve across British Columbia,” said Sarah Nelson, director of customer service for FortisBC, through a media release.
According to FortisBC, gas is acquired at market-based prices, with factors like supply and demand, weather and economic conditions affecting the price of gas in North America.
FortisBC does not mark up the cost of gas, the company notes, which means customers pay what FortisBC pays.
The BCUC reviews FortisBC’s cost of gas rates every three months, which means the next review and decision on price will come in December for the three-month period beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
“Even with the cost of gas staying the same, if you have questions about your bill, we're here to help,” added Nelson.
“Our dedicated customer service team is ready to provide energy-saving tips, answer billing questions and offer personalized solutions to meet your needs.”
FortisBC also has resources available online for customers who are looking to lower their energy use.
