“I dreamed this morning that I saw him”: Today marks 1 year since Ryan Shtuka’s disappearance

Today marks one year since Ryan Shtuka disappeared in Sun Peaks.

Ryan left a party in the B.C. community at 2 a.m. The walk home was about five minutes, but he was not seen again after that night. Now, the search for Ryan has entered its second year.

His parents, Heather and Scott Shtuka, spoke at the Kamloops RCMP detachment on Friday, saying they are still looking for their son.

"At that time, talking to the RCMP and hearing that your son is missing, we thought that was the worst thing any parent would have to hear," said Heather. "We have since learned, in the twelve months that are coming up upon us, that there are far worse things that we will have to."

Today, Ryan’s mother wrote “I dreamed this morning that I saw him.”

“He walked into the house and the cry I gave pierced my soul. I held him tight afraid to let go... breathing in his smell, feeling his arms wrap around me, hearing him tell me me how much he missed me as his tears and mine fell,” she said.

“And then he was gone.”

Kamloops RCMP's Cpl. Jodie Shelkie mentioned that police still receive tips weekly and the investigation continues.

His family, as well, continues to search in hopes that they will be able to find closure.

"Let us find him so that I can do what a mother should be able to do,” said his mother. “That is to look at my son one last time before I let him go and say to him, I love you. I'm so very proud of you, and you've had this amazing impact on me, your father, your two sisters, and so many other people around us.”

Anyone with information on Ryan Shtuka is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
