Kayaker rescued after suffering severe laceration on BC river

A kayaker in BC was thankfully rescued after suffering a severe laceration with life-threatening bleeding while on the Crooked River.

Prince George Search and Rescue (PG SAR) said they got the call on May 10 from a group of four who were kayaking down the river.

They encountered a log extending across bank to bank, and as they were pulling the kayaks across, one person slipped and was injured.

The injured woman’s party got her to shore, then two of them chased down the boat with the cell phone in it to call for help.

An ambulance was sent to the scene, but was not able to get the subject to the road on their own, prompting a response from SAR.

Members arrived 20 minutes after the paramedics and were able to package the injured woman up and make their way through the bush.

SAR members had to clear a path through thick bushes, brambles and fallen trees in the rain to get the patient to the waiting ambulance.

PG SAR noted that they were happy to see everyone in the group was wearing PFDS, and had access to an emergency alerting option that worked in the area. A total of 17 members responded to the incident.
