‘Keeping illegal drugs out’: CBSA investigation leads to 2-year jail sentence for BC drug trafficker

A BC man has been sentenced to over two years in prison and handed a lifetime firearms ban after being found guilty for drug trafficking.

On Thursday, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said Raymond Sun was sentenced on Dec. 16 for trafficking fentanyl and MDMA.

The sentencing stems from an investigation launched by the CBSA in September 2020.

Border services officers at the Vancouver International Mail Centre intercepted prohibited firearms parts originating from China.

The investigation identified Sun as the imported, the CBSA said in a news release.

In February 2021, the CBSA arrested Sun at his Richmond home where a search warrant was carried out.

The items seized included 274 grams of MDMA, 284 tablets of fentanyl, $77,000 in CAD currency and $1,120 in USD currency.

Officers also seized drug trafficking paraphernalia including scales, a money counting machine and various sizes of plastic baggies.

The CBSA charged Sun in September 2022 and on Mar. 13, he was found guilty of both charges.

“The Canada Border Services Agency is committed to keeping illegal drugs out of our communities,” said Nina Patel, regional director general of the CBSA’s Pacific Region.

“The diligent work of our officers and criminal investigators is securing the border and ensuring that those who break the law face the consequences.”
