A man has died in the protest camp at the Universal Ostrich Farm near Edgewood, according to police.
The man was found unresponsive shortly after 7 am on Monday, Nakusp RCMP said in a bulletin published this morning.
“Immediate life-saving measures were undertaken by officers on site,” police added, but “the man could not be resuscitated.”
That was “despite significant efforts by both police and paramedics,” according to Mounties.

Police stressed there is “nothing to suggest the death is suspicious.”
An investigation will now be undertaken by the BC Coroners Service.
The farm has been the centre of national, and international, media attention due to the ongoing court battle over whether hundreds of ostriches can be culled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Its case in defence of the animals has gone all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.
That court is due to reveal on Thursday whether it will hear the case.
If it decides against a hearing, the food inspectors will be permitted to cull the birds.
