(UPDATE: Oct. 9 @ 1:45 pm) - One week after initially going public with the case, the Burnaby RCMP is renewing its plea for information on a missing 11-year-old boy.
That includes the release of new photos of Kai Pavlovic and a statement from his family that lives in New Zealand.

"Kai is a bright, curious, outgoing and kind little boy who loves to climb trees, build forts and learn to sail. He is a friend to all animals and particularly adores horses, cats and dogs," the family's statement reads.
"Kai's family in New Zealand love him dearly, and they are asking anyone with any information on Kai's location to please immediately contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999."
The Burnaby RCMP first received a request for a well-being check on Kai on Sept. 26, 2025, and say information from his family suggests he is "staying with a caretaker."
The issue is that police have been unable to identify who that caretaker is.
“We believe there are people who know who this caretaker is, and where they are located, and we are appealing to them to come forward and speak to police,” Cpl. Laura Hirst said through a media release. “Our number one priority is to find Kai and confirm his safety and well-being.”
Investigators are also calling on community members who have had any interactions with Kai as part of his daily routine to come forward.
That includes parents whose children have been involved in playdates, sports or other extra curricular activities with the boy, as well as coaches, instructors or other supervisors from said activities.
“Our officers have been working non-stop to locate Kai and are employing a number of techniques to gather information and help move the investigation forward,”Hirst added.
“The best way for the public to help us is to keep an eye out for Kai and contact us immediately if they have any information on his whereabouts.”
Anyone with information on Kai's whereabouts is urged to contact the Burnaby RCMP or their local police.
(Original story: Oct. 2 @ 3:50 pm) - The Burnaby RCMP is turning to the public for help locating an 11-year-old boy, but says the missing persons case “does not meet the criteria for issuing an Amber Alert.”
“Amber Alerts are activated in cases where an abduction has been confirmed and there is believed to be imminent danger to the child,” explains an RCMP release issued Thursday afternoon.
Police first received a request for a well-being check for Kai Pavlovic on Friday, Sept. 26.

After speaking with the 11-year-old’s family, investigators say they have reason to believe Kai is “staying with a caretaker who is unknown to police.”
The RCMP adds that numerous resources have been dedicated to the search and various investigational avenues have been pursued, but the boy remains missing.
“Officers are working around the clock to locate Kai,” the release adds.
According to Cpl. Laura Hirst, the RCMP’s initial priority was to make people aware Kai was missing and to share his photos with the public.
A police description of Kai pegs him at 5’0” tall with a thin build and brown hair.
Anyone who knows where the boy is, or is currently looking after him, is urged to immediately contact their local police, the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
