(UPDATE: Aug. 4 at 9:03 am): Police said the man has now been found dead.
The 40-year-old Vernon man was reported missing last week.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP say a member of the public found an abandoned white pickup truck near SilverStar Road on Aug. 3.
Police attended the scene and determined the vehicle was connected to an active missing person investigation.
With help from RCMP Police Dog Services, officers found the body of the missing man a short distance away.
The man had been reported missing on July 30.
RCMP say criminality is not suspected in his death.
The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation.
The coroners service will work to determine how, where, when and by what means the man came to his unexpected death.
“Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Cpl. Tania Finn of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.
“We would like to thank the efforts of all those who assisted with the search.”
Neither RCMP nor the coroners service has more information to release at this time.
(Original story: Aug. 4 at 4 am): Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are asking for the public’s help finding a missing 40-year-old man.
Police say Riley Kelly was last seen leaving his residence on 41st Avenue in Vernon around 7:30 am on July 30.
He has not been seen or heard from since.
RCMP say Kelly’s family and police are concerned for his wellbeing.
Kelly is described as six feet tall, or 183 centimetres, and 181 pounds, or 82 kilograms.
He has sandy blond hair and blue eyes.
Police say he was last seen wearing a light blue T-shirt, dark blue jeans and Meindl hiking boots.
Kelly’s vehicle is a white GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab with B.C. licence plate VD5835.
Anyone who has seen or heard from Kelly, or has information about where he may be, is asked to contact local police.
