The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over a missing person investigation after remains were found in a Maple Ridge home.
They were discovered in a home in the 22800 block of Gillis Place on Tuesday and IHIT is working with the BC Coroners Service to confirm the identity of the remains.
IHIT S/Sgt. David Lee told reporters Thursday that 43-year-old Jessica Cunningham lived at the home with Mylie Barron and the pair were in an intimate relationship.
Cunningham was reported missing in July and has not been seen since June. On Wednesday, the BC Prosecution Service laid a charge of indignity to human remains against Barron. Barron’s Facebook profile shows a photo of him with Cunningham and a youth.
“Investigators are working diligently to understand the circumstances surrounding Jessica’s disappearance,” Lee explained through a media release. “Investigators are releasing her name and photo and seeking assistance to build a timeline of her activity leading up to the missing persons report.”
Barron is being held in custody at this time and is scheduled for a bail hearing on Sept. 26.
